Your Prom Ride
How are you getting to the big event?

Ok, so you have worked up the nerve to ask the girl of your dreams to go to prom with you and, if you are lucky, she said yes! Now what? You need to step up your game and start to think about how you are going to make it a night to remember. The Tux, no problem, that’s an easy one. Get together with your girl and she can help you with the style and colors that will work best with her dress. Remember that it’s important to work together on this because the pictures your mom, her mom, and all of her friends take will be around for the rest of your life. Trust me, they will find you later in life when you are in your 20’s and 30’s. Be sure to check out our Tux Tips page for more on Tux styles.
Once you have your date all set and the whole Tux thing is worked out now you need to work on your ride. Should you go traditional and rent a limo? Renting a limousine can cost $400-500 or more. If you have deep pockets, go for it! If not, you could split the cost with a few other couples. Make sure that the limousine service is licensed by the state. If you are renting a limousine call on the morning of the Prom to confirm the time it will arrive.
What if a limo is too expensive, what then? Never fear, you have options.

If you have a car of your own and it’s presentable, it should be fine. However, you need to make sure you follow a few simple rules.
•Rule #1: Make sure your car is cleaner than it has ever been before — inside and out. Nothing will bring down the evening as quick as opening the door for your date and having Taco Bell wrappers and empty Mountain Dew cans falling out all over her parent’s driveway.
•
•Rule #2: A little music is good, too much, BAD. You know you have 4,000 watts of ground-pounding bass that can shake the neighbor’s windows but please, not tonight. Tonight, keep it low, pick the right tunes and if she wants it louder, let her turn it up.
•
•Rule #3: Make sure you have enough gas. Showing up at prom smelling like a gas pump because you spilled gas on your suede-top dress shoes just isn’t cool. Don’t risk it — fill it up the day before. And remember, no matter what the cheesy old movies say running out of gas will not help your relationship.
•
•Rule #4: Be a gentleman, open the door for your date and make sure that her dress is not hanging out of the door before you close it.

Ok, so you are not lucky enough to have your own car. It’s time to think about using your parent’s car. This is a great option and of course all rules above apply just as if it was your own car. You may want to make sure the smooth jazz CD is tucked away in the glove box.
Option 3:
Can’t bear the thought of showing up to prom in mom’s Honda minivan? There is still hope! Maybe, if you’re lucky, you have a really cool uncle or a friend of the family with a nice BMW or even better a nice Corvette or Mustang. If you’re on good terms with them and their insurance will cover you, this may be your answer. And of course, like option 1 & 2, all rules above apply just as if it was your own car.

Option 4:
If all else fails, get a ride with friends. If you do, make sure you go over rules 1 through 4 with him or her before prom night.
Now that we have gone over all of your options it’s time to cover the most important rule of all. Don’t Drink on Prom Night and don’t let your friends drink. You are responsible for yourself, your date and your friends. Take your responsibility seriously and make the right choice to Be Smart, Be Safe and Be Sober.
